Rebattling Gym Leaders

To rebattle the Gym Leaders, you must first meet the Gym Leader outside of their Gym (which is in a set place at set times), where you obtain their phone number. You can then phone them for a rebattle at a certain time during the week, and they will be waiting in the Fighting Dojo. The Gym Leaders will stay here until you battle them, so there's no need to worry about having to battle them within a specific time period.

Gym Leaders Teams and Strategies

Johto Gym Leaders

Falkner
  • Staraptor - Lv. 50 (Flying/Normal),
  • Noctowl - Lv. 52 (Flying/Normal), 1805 Exp
  • Swellow - Lv. 52 (Flying/Normal), 1805 Exp
  • Honchkrow - Lv. 54 (Flying/Dark),
  • Pelipper - Lv. 48 (Flying/Water), 1687 Exp
  • Pidgeot - Lv. 56 (Flying/Normal), 2064 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: You're going to want to use Electric, Ice and Rock attacks, but the best overall type is probably Electric. This is because Pelipper is Water/Flying so it has a X4 weakness to Electric, and is neutral to Ice.

If you have been using the Mareep evolution line, Ampharos works brilliantly. By now you should be using either Discharge (learnt at level 34) or Thunderbolt (TM25).

Bugsy
  • Scizor - Lv. 56 (Bug/Steel), 2400 Exp
  • Shedinja - Lv. 48 (Bug/Ghost), 977 Exp
  • Yanmega - Lv. 52 (Bug/Flying),
  • Pinsir - Lv. 55 (Bug), 2357 Exp
  • Heracross - Lv. 54 (Bug/Fighting), 2314 Exp
  • Vespiquen - Lv. 52 (Bug/Flying),

Prizes:

Strategies: The best type to use in the Rebattle is Fire, as it's the only type which is Super-Effective against every Pokemon Bugsy is using, and is even X4 on Scizor and is it's only weakness.

Due to the Dual-Typing of many of Bugsy's new Pokemon, most have double weaknesses to some common types. For example, Vespiquen and Yanmega are X4 weak to Rock. This battle can be made significantly easier if you set up Stealth Rocks (CAN YOU GET THEM AT THIS POINT IN THE GAME?) at the start of the battle. This will cause both Yanmega and Vespiquen to lose half their health when their brought in, and should instantly knock out Shedinja (OR ATLEAST BREAK IT'S FOCUS SASH IF IT'S HOLDING ONE).

Keep in mind that, due to its ability, Shedinja can only be hit by Super-Effective moves. So unless the pokemon you have out has one when it's being brought in, don't forget to switch.

Whitney
  • Girafarig - Lv. 52 (Normal/Psychic), 1660 Exp
  • Lickilicky - Lv. 50 (Normal),
  • Bibarel - Lv. 54 (Normal/Water),
  • Delcatty - Lv. 54 (Normal), 1597 Exp
  • Clefable - Lv. 52 (Normal), 1437 Exp
  • Milktank - Lv. 58 (Normal), 2486 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: For this rematch you should bring a few Fighting type pokemon and one pokemon that knows a Dark type move. The Fighting types d oX2 against everyone but Girafarig, who is Psychic/Normal. So Dark types will do X2 against her Girafarig.

Morty
  • Drifblim - Lv. 52 (Ghost/Flying),
  • Dusknoir - Lv. 52 (Ghost),
  • Sableye - Lv. 52 (Ghost/Dark), 1092 Exp
  • Mismagius - Lv. 54 (Ghost),
  • Gengar - Lv. 57 (Ghost/Poison), 2321 Exp
  • Gengar - Lv. 57 (Ghost/Poison), 2321 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: A strong Ghost type would do good here or a strong pokemon with Ghost type moves.

Chuck
  • Medicham - Lv. 54 (Fighting/Psychic), 1180 Exp
  • Hitmonchan - Lv. 52 (Fighting), 1040 Exp
  • Hitmonlee - Lv. 55 (Fighting), 1092 Exp
  • Breloom - Lv. 54 (Fighting/Grass), 1273 Exp
  • Primape - Lv. 56 (Fighting), 1192 Exp
  • Poliwrath - Lv. 60 (Fighting/Water), 1586 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: A pokemon with strong Flying type moves will do very well here, it will do X2 on every one of these except Breloom. It'll do X4 on Breloom.

Jasmine
  • Metagross - Lv. 52 (Steel/Psychic), 1560 Exp
  • Magnezone - Lv. 56 (Steel/Electric),
  • Skarmory - Lv. 52 (Steel/Flying), 1248 Exp
  • Bronzong - Lv. 50 (Steel/Psychic),
  • Empoleon - Lv. 52 (Steel/Water),
  • Steelix - Lv. 62 (Steel/Ground), 1736 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: A Fighting type would be good for taking down Magnezone, Empoleon, and Steelix. Where as a Fire type would be good against Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory.

Pryce
  • Abomasnow - Lv. 56 (Ice/Grass),
  • Dewgong - Lv. 58 (Ice/Water), 1458 Exp
  • Glalie - Lv. 52 (Ice), 1389 Exp
  • Froslass - Lv. 52 (Ice/Ghost),
  • Walrein - Lv. 54 (Ice/Water), 1481 Exp
  • Mamoswine - Lv. 60 (Ice/Ground),

Prizes:

Strategies: No one type is Super-Effective against Pryces new team, and as such you should use a combination of Fire, Fighting, Rock and Grass (for the part Water and Ground types). So if you have a Pokemon with a powerful Fire attack, and one with a powerful Grass attack, you can Super-Effective his whole team for atleast X2 damage.

The easiest way to take out Abomasnow is to use a Fire attack, as taking it's X4 weakness and relatively poor defense's, it should be one or two hit KO'd.

It's ability, Snow Warning, will cause the battle ground to Hail for the rest of the battle. It may be convenient to change the weather yourself after Abomasnow has been taken out, perhaps using a TM move like Sunny Day/Rain Dance or switch in a Pokemon with it's own Weather-changing Ability, like Hippowdon (I THINK IT'S AVAILABLE BY NOW) though Sandstorm may hamper your team as well as Pryces. Though several of his pokemons Abilities depend on Hail to work, like Snow Cloak (on both Froslass and Mamoswine) which raises their Evasiveness or Ice Body (on Wallrein I THINK) which restores 1/16 of it's HP between turns in Hail. So taking this into account, the Sandstorm damage to your team is worth it. If you use Legends or Ubers in your playthrough, Groudon's(SS)/Kyogre's(HG) abilites change the weather to Sunny/Rain repectively, so this both get's rid of Hail and avoid damaging your own team. Also Sunny Day will help boost the power of your Fire attacks, which is helpful here.

Other than this, hit Glalie, Froslass and even Mamoswine with a Fire attack, and then Dewgong(Ice/Water), Walrein(Ice/Water) and Mamoswine(Ice/Ground) with a Grass attack.

As Ground is Super-Effective against Fire types, it's a better idea to use a Grass type against Mamoswine, despite both being Super-Effective

Clair
  • Gyarados - Lv. 56 (Water/Flying), 1712 Exp
  • Dragonair - Lv. 52 (Dragon), 1070 Exp
  • Aerodactyl - Lv. 52 (Rock/Flying), 1501 Exp
  • Kingdra - Lv. 56 (Dragon/Water), 1656 Exp
  • Charizard - Lv. 52 (Fire/Flying), 1553 Exp
  • Dragonite - Lv. 60 (Dragon/Flying), 1869 Exp

Prizes:

Strategies: A good Electric type would do good against Gyarados, Kingdra, and Dragonite. A strong Water type would be good against Charizard and Aerodactyl. A powerful Dragon type would do very good against Dragonair and Kingdra.

Kanto Gym Leaders

Lt. Surge
  • Raichu - Lv. 60
  • Manectric - Lv. 52
  • Magnezone - Lv. 52
  • Electrode - Lv. 52
  • Pachirisu - Lv. 58
  • Electivire - Lv. 56

Prizes:

Strategies: The best idea for this Gym are Ground-type attacks, preferably from a physically powerful Ground-type Pokemon (for both STAB and an Immunity to Electric attacks). If you're playing HeartGold, you may have a Sandslash by now who will do well here. Otherwise, good pokemon to use include Nidoking/Nidoqueen or Onix for either Versions of the game.

By now, you should have obtained the TM 26 (Earthquake), so it's a good idea to have taught it to one of the above mentioned Ground Pokemon

Sabrina
  • Alakazam - Lv. 60
  • Espeon - Lv. 58
  • Mr. Mime - Lv. 56
  • Jynx - Lv. 54
  • Wobbuffet - Lv. 53
  • Gallade - Lv. 53

Prizes:

Strategies: Ghost is the best type in this battle, as it's the only type that is Super-Effective against all of Sabrinas Pokemon. In keeping with this a Gengar is a good example of what you should use here, focusing on it's Shadow Ball (learnt at level 33). Gastly can caught as early as Sprout Tower and is a great asset to most teams.

Note however, that due to it's part Poison type, Gengar's weak to Sabrinas Psychic attacks. So you may want to be a level or two higher than her Alakazam so that you hopefully outspeed it. Due to it's poor defenses Alakazam won't take a Shadow Ball easily, but make sure to take it out quickly, as it has one of the highest Special attack and Speed stats in the game.

Mr. Mime has great Special Defense, so I suggest you switch to a Physical attacker for him.

Also note that Wobuffets Ability, Shadow Tag, keeps you from switching Pokemon when it's brought out, so be sure to have something effective out against it.

Misty
  • Starmie - Lv. 60
  • Quasire - Lv. 56
  • Lapras - Lv. 56
  • Lanturn - Lv. 54
  • Floatzel - Lv. 54
  • Milotic - Lv. 60

Prizes:

Strategies:

Erika
  • Shiftry - Lv. 54
  • Jumpluff - Lv. 53
  • Victreebel - Lv. 56
  • Bellossom - Lv. 56
  • Tangrowth - Lv. 60
  • Roserade - Lv. 55

Prizes:

Strategies: Well a fire type, an ice type, or even a flying type will do fine all do X2 against them.

Janine
  • Crobat - Lv. 52
  • Weezing - Lv. 56
  • Toxicroak - Lv. 52
  • Ariados - Lv. 58
  • Venomoth - Lv. 59
  • Drapion - Lv. 55

Prizes:

Strategies:

Brock
  • Golem - Lv. 55
  • Relicanth - Lv. 54
  • Omastar - Lv. 56
  • Onix - Lv. 61
  • Kabutops - Lv. 55
  • Rampardos - Lv. 57

Prizes:

Strategies: Similar to his original team, his improved team has a serious Grass weakness, as every member has a X4 Grass weakness, due to the mostly Dual-types of Rock/Ground and Rock/Water (except for Rampardos, whose the only pure Rock type on the team and as such has only a X2 Grass weakness). Due to this, any Specially powerful Grass type can probably OHKO each of his team members.

A good example of a Pokemon for this Gym would be Victreebell, preferably with a powerful Grass attack, like TM19 (Giga Drain) which you receive from Erika for beating her in the Celadon City Gym or perhaps TM53 (Energy Ball).

Even without a X4 weakness to Grass, Rampardos should be easily knocked out with one of the above mentioned Grass attacks, or a powerful Water attack like Surf. This is due to its low speed and bad defenses. Be careful to knock it out quick, as Rampardos has the highest non-Uber attacking stat in the game, so can cause alot of damage to your team.

Blaine
  • Torkoal - Lv. 54
  • Camerupt - Lv. 57
  • Rapidash - Lv. 60
  • Magcargo - Lv. 58
  • Houndoom - Lv. 54
  • Magmortar - Lv. 62

Prizes:

Strategies: Water and Ground attacks work best in this battle, as every member has atleast a X2 weakness to both types. While Camerupt (Fire/Ground) and Magcargo (Fire/Rock) have both a X4 weakness to Water. Magcargo is also X4 weak to ground.

Therefore Surf (HM03) and Earthquake (TM26) are going to be your moves of choice.

Green/Blue
  • Exeggutor - Lv. 67
  • Machamp - Lv. 69
  • Rhyperior - Lv. 70
  • Arcanine - Lv. 68
  • Tyranitar - Lv. 70
  • Pidgeot - Lv. 72

Prizes:

Strategies: Well some Flying types (or moves) will do X2 on Exeggutor and Machamp, Water types (or moves) do X2 on Arcanine, Tyranitar, and Rhyperior, where as an Electric type (or move) will clean out that last pokmeon, Pidgeot. So I recommend an Ampharos with some strong Electric moves such as Thunder and Charge Beam. A Pidgeot with moves like Air Slash and Tailwind to increase your team's speed. Also a strong Water Type like Feraligatr with moves like Surf and Aqua Tail along with Ice Fang (for that Exeggutor).

Getting a Hoenn Starter

After you have defeated Red on Mt. Silver and have all 16 Badges, head over to Siplh Co. On the bottom floor you'll meet with Steven Stone from the Hoenn region, he will offer you one of the Hoenn starters. You'll get to choose Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip. The one you choose will be at Lv. 5.

Important Note: After you go to Pewter Museum of Science he will come back here and you can then trade him for a Beldum, see Vermillion City for the info fo this Beldum and what you trade for it.

Rotom's Formes

When you have rotom in the front of your party head to Silph Co. and go in the elevator it will take you to a floor with the machines that Rotom uses to change forme. (in HG and SS you don't need the secret key to change Rotom's forme.)
